Emotional Regulation & Social Thinking

The Zones of Regulation® program is a step-by-step structured curriculum that teaches children to learn to recognise their emotions, identify their triggers for dysregulation, and create an individual toolkit of sensory, cognitive, and breathing strategies for self-regulation.

The Social Thinking® program helps children understand how social situations work, see things from other people’s perspectives, and manage their own actions. It’s designed to improve communication and build stronger relationships.

We are here for the long haul, offering help as long as it’s needed, but our ultimate goal is to foster independence in parents, so you feel confident in guiding your child’s progress on their own. This is why our programs also involve parents, helping you develop the skills and confidence needed to become active partners in your child’s journey of growth and change.

Zones of Regulation®

This programme helps children understand and manage their emotions through a colour-coded system:

  • Identifying emotions: Children learn to recognise their feelings and understand how they affect their behaviour.
  • Self-regulation: Techniques like deep breathing and mindfulness help children manage their emotions.
  • Social skills: It teaches children how to interact appropriately with others by understanding their own feelings and those of others.

Support for parents: We teach parents how to use the Zones system in everyday situations, via parental attendance in the sessions and through setting up ‘homework’ exercises to complete at home with your child between sessions.

Social Thinking®

This program supports children in developing a deeper understanding of the social world by enhancing their ability to observe and interpret social interactions, recognise the meaning behind social practices, and reflect on how their actions affect others.

  • Social awareness: Children learn to consider the feelings and perspectives of others.
  • Problem-solving: It teaches kids how to handle social situations and conflicts.
  • Self-awareness: Children learn how their own behaviours affect their relationships with others.

Support for parents and schools: We provide strategies to help children practice and apply these skills at home and school.
